Use * to search for part of a word, for instance ‘rot*’. Entering only * will select all records pertaining to that search field. You can for instance search for all programmes that include a live performance in the programme by entering an asterisk in the search field ‘live performance’. If you enter several different words in a search field at once, you will only search for that exact phrase. Whatever you enter, the search result will be a listing of programmes. The ‘index’ button is visible to the right of some search fields. This button opens a pop-up window with an alphabetical list of all possible values for that field. By clicking on one of these values, that value is entered into the search field for you while you are automatically returned to the search page.
all: search through all fields of the Programmes collection indiscriminately. You can only find information from the Notes field by selecting the search field ‘all fields’. Admission prices and cinema orchestras for instance are often noted in the Notes field. Use ‘prij*’ or ‘entre*’ or ‘orkest*’ or ‘muzi*’ for this.
film title: the displayed film title.
year of film production: the year of production of the displayed film.
country of film origin: the country of origin of the displayed film (with index).
cinema: the cinema where the programme took place.
city: the city where the programme took place (with index).
street: the street of the cinema where the programme took place.
live performance: a programme element that included a live performance: for instance a programme that included elements such as musical revue, comedy and live acts.
distributor: the company or individual that rented out the displayed film.
name of travelling cinema: the companies that organised a travelling programme (with index). If you are looking for a travelling cinema, you should search within the Companies collection.
film rating: the rating of the displayed film (with index).
title of programme: some programmes would have specific titles, for instance current events programmes, children’s programmes, or special St. Nicholas programmes. Use this field to filter for instance all children’s programmes from your search results by entering the line “not jeugd*” to your search query.
programme ID: the unique identification number (ID) of a programme in Cinema Context. You can find a programme’s ID number in Cinema Context right below the tabs on the details page. You will also see the ID number when moving a programme to ‘my data’, where it is then listed before the date. A programme’s ID begins with a V, supplemented by a numerical combination.
limit search to: programmes with more than one film: by checking this option, you will find all programmes in which two or more films were screened.
limit search to: travelling cinemas only: by checking this option, you will find all travelling programmes.
limit search to: "shown between": this option allows you to search for programmes that were screened in a specific period. If you want to search for all programmes that were screened in a specific year, for instance in 1935, you must enter that year (eg. 1935) in the first field, and the following year (eg. 1936) in the second field. Your search result will yield all programmes from 1935. You can even search by day or by month.
