Use * to search for part of a word, for instance ‘cin*’. Entering only * will select all records pertaining to that search field. You can for instance find all cinemas that have screened films by entering an asterisk in the ‘film title’ search field. If you enter several different words at once in a search field, you will only search for that exact phrase. Whatever you enter, your search result will be only a list of cinemas. The ‘index’ button is visible to the right of some search fields. This button opens a pop-up window with an alphabetical list of all possible values for that field. By clicking on one of these values, that value is entered into the search field for you while you are automatically returned to the search page. If you are searching for a travelling cinema, you should search for it within the Companies collection.
all: search all fields of the Cinemas collection.
cinema name: the name of the cinema (with index). Use this search field combined with the ‘city’ search field.
city: the city where the cinema is located (with index).
street: the street where the cinema is located.
film title: the title of the film being screened.
cinema company name: the business that runs the cinema.
name of person: name of a person that worked in the cinema.
job title: the function a person has carried out in the cinema (with index).
proprietor: the persons and/or companies that have had ownership of the building.
architect: the building’s architect (with index).
cinema ID: a cinema’s unique identification number (ID) in Cinema Context. You can find a cinema’s ID number in Cinema Context right below all the tabs of the details page. You can also find a cinema’s ID when you move it to ‘my data’. The ID number is listed before the cinema’s name. The cinema’s ID-number starts with a B followed by a numerical combination.
limit search to: "time period from": you can indicate here in which period you wish to search for cinemas. Enter the first and last year of the given period. If you are looking for cinemas in a specific year, for instance in 1935, you must enter that year (eg. 1935) in the first field, and the following year (eg. 1936) in the second field. Your search result will yield all cinemas in 1935.
limit search to: "established between": use this option to search for cinemas that were established or opened in a specific period. Enter the first and last year of the given period. If you want to find cinemas that opened in a specific year, for instance in 1935, you must enter that year (eg. 1935) in the first field, and also in the second field. Your search result will yield all cinemas that opened in 1935.
limit search to: "programmes between": use this option to search for cinemas that offered programmes in a specific period. If you are searching for cinemas that offered programmes in a specific year, for instance in 1935, you must enter that year (eg. 1935) in the first field, and the following year (eg. 1936) in the second field. Your search result will yield all programmes from 1935. You can even search by day or by month.
